Eligibility Criteria:
- Anyone with a Norwegian driving licence or with a driving licence from another EU/EEA country can be issued an international driving licence in Norway. The prerequisite is that they have a fixed residential address in Norway.
IDP Accepted:
- Norway recognizes physical IDPs, as long as they meet the requirements set by the country’s traffic regulations.
Application Process:
- To obtain an international driving licence, visit any NAF (Norwegian Automobile Association) center or the NAF Office at Stensjveien 14, Oslo, with your Norwegian driver’s licence and a passport photo. Alternatively, you can send your application by mail. Include two passport photos, a copy of your valid driving licence (both sides), your home address, place of birth, city, and your NAF membership number (if applicable) for any discounts.
Validity:
- An IDP obtained in Norway is generally valid for one year from the date of issue. If needed, it can be renewed, but the validity cannot exceed the expiration date of the domestic driving licence.
Accepted Countries:
- Norway is a party to international conventions, such as the 1968 Vienna Convention and 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. The IDP issued in Norway complies with the standards set by these conventions.
Driving Licence Requirement:
- A driving licence issued by a member state of the EEA is recognised throughout the EEA. Otherwise, you must be able to present both your IDP and your local driver’s licence when you travel.
